Atticus & Grace: Updates

A few updates (mainly for me to remember long from now):

1. Atticus is in his Big Boy Bed: This past week when GG & I traveled to Sanger, Atticus slept in the bed with me while Grace was in the pack and play. He really is too big for the pack and play and I didn't want to haul one down there with me (GG has one at her house already). Since he did a good job sleeping in Sanger, I decided as soon as we came home, we'd just go straight to his big boy bed and not back in the crib. From Wednesday night, he has done wonderfully! We have changed our routine a little as we read books in his bed and sometimes if Grace is eating, then only Vic puts him to sleep. But, with the exception of a couple of nights and naps, he goes to sleep on his own and stays in his bed until we come to get him. We have had his "big boy" bed ready for a few weeks now and really talked it up, but I was surprised that he doesn't seem at all affected by leaving his crib or the fact that we call it Grace's bed now. I guess we haven't quite hit that "everything is mine" stage yet. Oh and the best part of his new bed is that he has Mickey Mouse sheets on it that GG bought for him. IT has made all of the difference as we made a big deal about his Mickey Mouse sheets when he started sleeping on them. The cutest thing in the morning:
Sarah: "Atticus, did you sleep well last night?"
Atticus: "Mun-I Seets" - I'm assuming that means he slept well on his Mickey sheets!

2. Grace is sleeping: Grace has been a typical newborn up to this point; She sometimes sleeps really well and then sometimes wants to be up all night. And, with her cold, she wakes herself up because she can't sleep laying flat, so in Sanger, GG or I slept in the recliner with her propped up. But, for a couple of nights in a row now, she has slept for 4-5 hours at a time only getting up once to eat. After that she has been sleeping 3 hours at a time at night, which is not a ton, but every time she eats she goes right back to sleep. So, this is a good routine.

Vic actually said on Sunday morning when we woke up at 8:00 am (after Grace had slept 8 hours and only wanted up once to eat) and both kids were still sleeping: "Are these our children? Is this our home?"

3. Atticus has diarrhea: This is not the appealing way to discuss it, but it is the truth and the first virus like this we have experienced. Last Friday, Atticus was sent home from school at noon. Apparently, the entire school had this little bug. Friday didn't seem to be a big deal, but once Saturday hit, we knew he was sick. Poor baby - he went through lots of diapers, one sheet changing, and lots of diaper cream. He sometimes hates having baths and a few nights ago was exceptionally bad and he just cried and cried. But, we forced him to sit in the water for just a few minutes because we needed him to soak just a little to help that little bottom. It was terrible though - he would quiver and cringe every time we changed him...which was a lot. And he walked around bowlegged most of that day because his bottom hurt. Ugh - the week has been better, although he has been home 4 of the 5 days from school. I have enjoyed having him home though and practicing being home with two kiddos! The only semi-fun thing about this ordeal was that last Friday night, he felt so bad, he just climbed into my rocker with me to rock and be held. He is so big and long compared to Grace and is not a child that typically crawls into your lap to be held. So, I cherished it. He ended up falling asleep in Vic's arms - another thing he doesn't do. So, while we hate that he was sick, we secretly loved that he needed us to comfort him so much! Apparently this can last 10-14 days, so we are in the middle of it now.

That is it for now!
