New Year's Eve 2015

So, I wanted to make sure and document a picture of our fun New Year's Eve with the Scarmardo's! It is always different doing NYE when you have kids. Some years we have done it with just us and some we have done with friends and their kids and last year we actually got an adult NYE with Ana and Charley! This year, we had Chris, Katherine and Olivia over for dinner and games and watched the ball drop at 11pm and then we all went to bed! ha! Olivia is at the age where she could just sleep at her regular time in the pack and play and we got to put ours to bed as well. So, it is so nice to have friends who still want to celebrate but are completely okay with the altered schedule of NYE!

December 27th: Christmas with the Erwins

This year, we traveled to Sanger December 26th thru the 29th for Erwin Christmas. On Saturday, when we arrived, we got Atticus settled at Grandma and Pop's and Grace settled at GG's and then Ana, Charley, Vic and I went on our annual Christmas dinner outing. They always find great places for us to eat and this year was really fun. We went to Denton to a restaurant called "Barley and Board" located on the square. The food was so good and we had the funniest, driest humor, waitress ever. She wasn't rude, but she would just say what she thought including telling Vic he looked kind of old (compared to those she was carding), and that she didn't really like Jason Lee (the actor and owner of the restaurant) AND when Vic was in the bathroom, she asked me if he was the dad to all 3 of my kid, as if that was a shocker? It was hilarious though. She also told me I should make babies for a living after seeing a picture of Atticus and Grace. I'm sure she just wanted a good tip, but she was funny. Anyways, after flash flooding on the way home - yikes!, I put Grace to bed (I stayed at GG's that night) and we got ready for the next morning.

Since Daddy works nights right now, he gets off at 7am. So, we decided to have everyone gather around 7:30 or so at GG, Melbo and Pa's house for Christmas so Daddy could join us a few hours too. We opened presents, ate delicious food, and visited. We all got super fun gifts. Vic got a Yeti Koozie, some cooking items, a bunch of CD's (including Justin Bieber which he is embarrassed about but actually wanted it!), a bunch of gift cards, a new rain gauge, Christmas lights for outside, and a bunch of crazy socks (tacosaurus socks, beer socks, colorful socks, you name it!). I got a bunch of great 4th of July decor, a bunch of great scrapbooking supplies, a face scrubber, jewelry, lots of house shoes, a wafflemaker, cooking things, clothes, and a new sign for the babies room. Atticus walked away with so many fun things: his first little legos, a megaladon tooth and toy, a star wars sleeping bag, dinosaurs, a rifle and handcuffs, an animal globe, new boots and a rope and roping dummy, his own nativity and so many other things! And finally, Grace got a Frozen sleeping bag, 3 purple kitties (what she asked for all of December), an easel and art supplies, books, games, a horse and Sheriff Callie dress up outfit, her own rope and new Frozen sheets for her bed. We all left throughout the day and then on Monday, when everyone that could, took off or had off work that day, we gathered at Grandma and Pops (or my mom and dad's) for Family Game Day. I LOVE Family Game Day. I just love to play games and this is always a fun day to do it, while we eat even more delicious snacks and foods. This year, Daddy, Vic, Mom and I started off with some Skip-Bo and then when everyone arrived, we played other games including Zero, Ticket to Ride, Fishbowl, and this year, we spent a lot of time doing some Reindeer Games. I saw, on a blog, some game ideas to do. So, we broke into a guys vs. girls team and stacked coke cans on plates, passed a ball without using our hands, moved an oreo from our foreheads to our mouths without using hands, stacked dice onto a popsicle stick in our mouths and even played a hot potato game of unwrapping a saran covered ball with good and boobie prizes as fast as we could. The best game though, was called Jingle Bell Rock. We had each couple compete against each other. You had a kleenex box wrapped around your waist and it was filled with jingle bells. When the music started, you had to shake your hiney until all the bells came out. It was hilarious in person - especially when Melbo and Pa, who are 85 and 89, did it! I loved reindeer games so much and hope we do them every year!

It was all really fun and I think my favorite part is that even Melbo and Pa play. Usually, Pa will sit with Melbo and just watch and Melbo will play the games. But, this year, Pa played too. The truth is, he actually loves the games, but is probably a little embarrassed to play. So, I am glad they always come and enjoy them. And, the game we play every year since Charley and Ana introduced it to us, is called Fishbowl. It's like charades. You each write down 3 things - people or movies or whatever. You have two teams. The first round, your team draws (for one minute) the paper out of the hat and has to describe what is on it using words. You go back and forth between teams playing until all the papers have been drawn and talked out. Then, the next round, you do the same things, but can only say one word. Then, the last round, you can't talk at all, but can only act them out. Well, this sounds fun and good until you get lots of generations going. Melbo and Pa have things in there like names of professional calf ropers or Judge Judy or really old actors or movies or TV shows. So, it's hilarious to watch people try to act them out. On the other hand, they don't always know the more modern movies or actors or celebrities like Kim Kardashian. Watching Melbo try to play this game without accidentally giving the answer away or talking when she shouldn't be, is the funniest thing. And this year, when Pa played, it was funny because he knew exactly what she was trying to get us to guess - such as Judge Judy - while the rest of us didn't have a clue! Oh My! It makes me laugh just thinking about the chaos of it all. So funny! So, Game Day is always fun. Here are pictures below to help describe our Erwin Christmas!

Oh and before I get to pictures, I want to note two things. 1) Grace's one true love right now is kitties, as I've mentioned before. But, she really loves Bubba, the cat at Melbo's. He is not that interested in her, but he will tolerate her and be so kind and she just loves on him and follows him around and makes him play with her toys. It's so funny. So, the funniest thing came on the day of opening gifts. She had her little gray kitty that Santa had brought her and was carrying him around and following Bubba. Well, at one point, in the kitchen, she has both and Pa tells her he will give her Bubba if she will give him her toy kitty. She looks at Pa, then she stands up and hands over that toy kitty!! It was so funny because she took it seriously and decided she'd rather have Bubba. So cute! She did come back for the toy kitty a minute or so later, but I think Pa was excited to make the trade! and 2) Melbo is the one you give your kids to if you want them to nap. Grace is not a napper and rarely will just fall asleep in your lap unless he is sick. Well, Sunday afternoon after presents, she crawls into Melbo's lap with Bubba and falls right asleep! And the next day, about 11 am or so, Melbo and Pa come over to visit and while we are all sitting on the couch to visit, Grace falls asleep on Melbo again! So, I had to include those pictures below!

December 25th: Christmas Day

The kids woke up bright and early Christmas morning. Atticus ran to our room and said "Santa came! Mommy! Even though I haven't been very good this year, Santa brought me a dinosaur book!" We got up, got Grace, and let them go to town with their stockings and what Santa brought them. A few things in Grace's stocking were Minnie Mouse characters,a magnifying glass, a coloring book you use with a water pen, a bath mermaid, a new hairbrush, a hat and mittens, and a water baby. Atticus got robot numbers, little dinosaurs, a hat and mittens, a magnifying glass, and a stuffed Woolly Mammoth that he promptly named "Tusks". They also each got a couple of books, a new stool, and together they got a giant container of Cheese Balls! Santa brought Atticus his Imaginext Ultra T Rex and Grace got 2 kitties! They were both so excited! We spent practically all day opening gifts, since although Atticus wants to open everything at once, Grace wants to open and play, then open and play. And, since they went to bed too late the night before, it was nice for Grace to have a little nap when she got tired and cranky. Sometimes, for this age, this is why it is nice to be at home with just us on the actual Christmas Day. Vic and I can deal with the cranky, but I hate for others to have to when they really want to just watch the kids enjoy their day. It's better to spread it all out for now. A few other things the kids got include a drill set, pattern shape puzzles, some dress up clothes, Guess Who and the Fishing Game, art supplies, clothes, househoes, a remote control car, a couple new dinosaurs, Disney princesses, and some tennis/paddle boards for outside. Vic got a new Bible, lots of socks and underwear (ha!), and some kitchen things. I got a Michael Kors watch!, a new scarf, a new candle, a devotion, and some socks. It was a fun day of gifts! Here are some pictures below!
