December!

So....we are back. I have this brilliant idea to actually catch up on the past 4 months of our lives, but that seems daunting. So, I'll start with updating you on today!

Today, we have had one of those great days where we stay home all day long (this is Atticus's favorite thing to do...almost everyday he tells me he just wants to stay home and play). We pulled out almost every card game, puzzle, board game, etc. that we own, in addition to kitchen toys, dinosaurs and Minnie Mouse to play. AND we got naps...which never happens but Grace was up half the night coughing. So, I was tired. Anyways, it was a good day. Did I accomplish anything else? No. But, having a full day of kids with minimal fighting and minimal crankiness is sometimes worth getting nothing done.

On the Christmas side of things, we got our tree up this past Friday. This was after we realized our big tree of 6 years had only half the lights working and we had to finally give up on trying to revive it. So, Vic got a great deal, thank goodness, at Lowe's on another beautiful tree at about 8pm. Atticus stayed up late helping to decorate it and it was really special. He took the job so seriously and enjoyed every single ornament. He chose lots of them to put on his own tree in his room. So, the house is decorated and cozy. Atticus also loves turning on the lights all over the house and so proud that he can do it.

I'm hoping this month creeps by because I love this age of both kids and this time of year. I love the Christmas pajamas and clothes; I love that Grace and Atticus are both singing Christmas songs on their own; I love the evening Christmas movies we've watched so far like Frosty the Snowman; And I REALLY love sitting in the house at night with Vic or the kids with all of the Christmas lights on while it is cold outside! My shopping is almost completely done which relaxes me more. I have recipes out to make some of those annual treats that we look forward to this time of year. And, we have a few festive events to attend, but we are keeping it calm I think. So, I will keep you posted as our month goes on. My goal is to post once a day, but let's be honest here....

Side note: I'll try to update you on kids daily, but here is a quick summary of Grace tonight: Grace is much more independent and comfortable doing her own thing than Atticus was at this age, I think. She tells us regularly "me boss" and today while we were cleaning up HER mess (and after I'd just convinced Atticus to help us - it was a big mess!), she sat down on a box and said "I watch". I told her she could not watch but she insisted and the fight was about to begin. Atticus was in that helpful mood and told me "it is OK; I'll clean it up for her". Also, I think in general, she just doesn't like to clean up - imagine that as a 2 year old. But, yesterday, when she wouldn't pick up, I told her she could pick whatever it was up or go sit in her room. She looked at me and said "sit my room" and ran off in tears. That stinker! She basically chose being disciplined than just following instruction! She also listens to Atticus occasionally. She absolutely loves his one-on-one attention, when he will give it to her. Also, her name for him is "Cuss" and I love it so much. But, lately, when she has to go sit in her room, I will ask Atticus to go have a talk with her and he will. They come out holding hands and she will usually come apologize to me. And then they actually play so nicely with one another. It has only happened a handful of times, but I'll take it. Also potty training is not going great...as I type this, I am listening to Vic, who was about to wash her after she'd played in the bathtub, "Grace! We do not poop in the bathtub!". We have only really tried serious potty training one day...I need to get on that. But, potty training is a commitment and with Atticus, I learned that it wasn't too important to try too terribly hard until they tell you they need to go. Otherwise, it is just hard on the adult all the time and the toddler just keeps pretending they are wearing diapers. So, I may be giving myself excuses but we are going to keep working on this. But, Grace is also talking SO much now. She repeats everything and speaks in sentences and doing so good compared to 7 months ago. We stopped Speech Therapy about a month ago because she was hitting the normal range. Oh and this past week, she has learned that our names are Vic and Sarah and she will yell from one end of the house to the other "Vic!". Or she will say it to us and then laugh because she thinks she is so funny and honestly, she is. We finally broke her of her rough August of sleeping in our bed too many nights and while she almost always still cries for a minute, she is easy to put down these days. She still doesn't take naps (except for today!) and we have them on a 7:30 bedtime now - woohoo! (except for tonight for some reason...maybe I should be helping Vic instead of typing this...). She loves preschool and tells me everyday that she did "chapel, lunch, singing, painting, and outside". She calls her teacher "buth-buth-buth" since she can't say Miss Elizabeth and it's so funny in person. She finally stays in the nursery at church after Sunday School with Miss Jane and typically Miss Jane will have to change her diaper. Well, lately, every time I ask her if she needs a diaper change (when I know she does), she will say "no! Miss Jane clean me!" Grace...she cleaned you a week ago. But, she tells me that all the time. She also gives the sweetest kisses right now. She will give "slobbery kisses" which for Atticus means slobbery but for her just means multiple and they may be on each check and each eye and then your nose and then your hair. Oh my - Grace is cute and fun and snuggly and such a girl right now with the singing and dancing. So, there's a quick update on Grace at 2 years, 9 months. Okay onto a couple of decorating pictures!
