Sarah's 35th Birthday

I turned 35 this year and while we celebrated big the weekend before with DWTS and a weekend with Erwins, Vic and the kids still celebrated me on my day, Wednesday, the 28th. What started out as a great morning turned scary quick. We had MOPS that day and it was so fun to go and we had plans to meet Vic for lunch (girls were with me) and then come home for fun at home that evening. Well, during MOPS, we were playing Minute to Win It Games and although they are not hard or anything, I tripped while half running about 20 feet from one spot to another. Well, when I tripped, I fell. Hard. Right on my stomach. I did not catch myself with my hands and it happened so fast. I jumped up fast and said I was ok and smiled (because that is what I do) and then started thinking about how hard I hit my stomach. At 17 weeks pregnant. I went to the bathroom to get away for a minute and the tears started. And I was just worried. And then the girls and my mentors started coming in and I could NOT stop crying and that is not how I like to handle things. I like to handle things without freaking out. But, for some reason, my hormones and just being scared kept me from being able to not cry. One of the girls was a delivery nurse and she advised that I call my doctor and even go in for a heartbeat check. I did that and the doctor on call (mine was not in that day) said that at 17 weeks, to just watch for bleeding for 24 hours and any pains and to drink lots of water. And that was it. While I can follow instructions, it was just going to be a long 24 hours. And really, there was nothing that could be done at 17 weeks if I had hurt the baby. It was just scary. I wasn't feeling kicks yet to help me know that baby was moving around and it was just scary. I had never fallen during pregnancy and I felt SO DUMB being so clumsy, especially since I know I am clumsy. But, anyways, I called Vic bawling and decided I was in no form to go to lunch. We went home but then all I could do was think about it. And cry. I had so many MOPS girls calling and praying and just realized that a group of mamas like that are an army! And every one I talked to told me to go get the heartbeat checked, even though the doctor didn't say to come in. I called and the doctor's office said to come in and they would check. So, Vic came home early (poor guy - I was a mess and there wasn't much he could do) and I went in to wait to see a nurse. It took two nurse's to find the heartbeat, but my only hope was that it had taken Dr. Bertsch longer to find the heartbeat on this baby at every appointment. Then, all of a sudden they found the heartbeat. I was so thankful and so relieved. But, boy was I emotionally exhausted. I was so glad baby was ok and for the next 24 hours, I didn't have any symptoms to make me think anything was wrong. I was so thankful that God makes our bodies to carry our babies and protect them so well inside us.

Anyways, we ate a delicious dinner and had cake and relaxed the rest of the evening. What a scary day, but so thankful for my 35th birthday and that all was ok.
I loved the sign Vic made - GOAT (Greatest of All Time)!

10 Year Wedding Anniversary Trip

When we got married and went on our honeymoon, we had that train of thought that in life, we would always celebrate our anniversaries and the big ones, we would celebrate with big trips! I remember we said that we would go back to Sonoma on our 10th anniversary! Well, that didn't work out. Our lives now include our precious kids and a honeymoon in Sonoma was not going to happen. And that was ok, but we did really want to just get away. So, GG agreed to come keep the kids and we took a little weekend trip to Salado and Georgetown the weekend before our anniversary. It was a great trip! After watching Atticus's Veteran Day singing performance at school, we got on the road. We left Friday morning, shopped and ate in Salado, saw some historical site in Salado, went on to Georgetown to a cute house we rented; then Saturday we slept in, shopped in Georgetown and found places to drink wine and eat; we played games and watched hallmark movies (I know I know, but it was just relaxing and Vic loves to predict a predictable movie, ha!) in our cute little house. We left Sunday morning and shopped at the outlet mall in Round Rock and then made our way back home. It was just a refreshing weekend with just the two of us to celebrate 10 years of marriage!
(he was so nervous to sing "I'm Proud to be an American" because as he had practiced the last couple of weeks at home, he would get emotional and cry sometimes and say it was just so sad. Oh my sweet Atticus!)
We ate at the Stagecoach Inn.
Inside the Stagecoach Inn.
Then we checked out an old college ruins area right in the same area.
This was our Air BNB for the weekend; it was newly renovated and perfect for us to stay in. We could even walk to restaurants or downtown from here.
It was impossible to find dinner in downtown Georgetown Friday night; everywhere had a long wait and we just wanted to eat a little something fun and hang out. We finally found this bar/restaurant and got a table.
And then we just took selfies for the rest of the weekend - in front of every place we ate and drank!
It was a great weekend to remember!

My 34th Birthday!

I need to blog this really quick before I forget it! I mean, I am 34 now...my memory is going to go soon, right? So, on my actual birthday, a Tuesday, Vic picked up sushi and chips and guacamole at HEB and we waited until the kids were all in bed and then we sat down on the couch and watched Alaskan Bush People. We are really into this show! And the weekend before, we sort of started celebrating my birthday with a scrapbooking weekend. Vic entertained kids off and on so I could scrap off and on and it was great! At the next weekend, we celebrated again! On Friday night, I caught Vic and Grace sneaking around to make my birthday cake. Grace loves to bake cakes. Then on Saturday, we started off with a trip to Pebble Creek Elementary for the school's big carnival. It rained all day and was cozy in the house. That evening we ate Pioneer Woman's Pot Roast with mashed potatoes and ate strawberry birthday cake with pink icing and pink sprinkles. It was delicious! Then, we opened presents. I got new laundry baskets, bike hanging racks for the garage, and necklaces from the kids. (we budgeted this year! ha!) It was a great week of celebrating! Here's some pictures to show our day!
The kids thought I would want to play babies on my birthday...so we did. :)
My favorite meal...pot roast.
And little Miss here decided to pull up for the first time to get to my candle from Katherine!

Everly at 2 weeks and a postpartum update

Well, we have made it two weeks into Everly's little life! Here's a quick summary of how we've done:

Monday, April 18th - arrive home.

Tuesday, April 19th - Head back to doctor's office for Everly's weight check; all is good. We will have to do a hip ultrasound at 6 weeks because she was breech; her weight is 7 lbs. 2 oz. and although I've had some pain nursing, the doctor does not think she has a tongue tie.

Wednesday, April 20th - I am in major pain after nursing and cannot even stand to nurse her that morning. I feel like it is the same pain as when Grace had her tongue tie, but am not sure what to do. I don't know if she is not latching properly or if I'm doing something wrong. So, we head back to the hospital to the lactation specialists to check it out. After meeting them, they think her frenulum is tight and said it can be genetic (so since Grace had it, Everly might too). While they help me position her different ways and give me some other tips to help my "udders" heal and give me time to get better, all while still nursing her, they also suggest seeing an ENT. So, after phone calls and help from friends, we get into an ENT at 4pm that day and thankfully they snip her little frenulum back.

Thursday, April 21st - We head back to my doctor's office to have my vacuum seal removed from my incision area. This was the first time I had this for recovery and it would pull out any air regularly all day long. All looked good to the nurse except for one little spot that hadn't yet healed up. She was not concerned. I actually feel like it helped me heal better. Vic and I also picked up Freebirds and ate in the car for a little lunch date and I got to shop at a baby boutique while we were out!

Friday, April 22nd - This was a day at home! As far as my recovery, I am doing good. My feet are still very swollen and I still need help in and out of bed and still taking pain medicine. Breastfeeding is still super painful and I'm having a hard time re-creating what the lactation specialists did to help the pain when I was in their office. And, at this point, I'm getting some Baby Blues, I guess. Tears and tired, although Everly is a great little sleeper in between feedings.

Saturday and Sunday were similar to Friday. Pain when feeding and wondering if I needed to go back to the lactation specialists again. But, my c-section recovery is still going really well.

Monday, April 25th - We start worrying a little bit about my incision. The entire area is red and that one little section that was not healed has started to drain a little and sting a little. I'd not had any issues in the past, but Vic thought we needed to go to the doctor. So, we scheduled an appointment.

Tuesday, April 26th - We head back to my doctor and she confirms that the incision looks fine, but that one little section of just skin that hasn't healed back together is just irritated by yeast. Sounds weird, but with the help of some cream, she said to give it time and it will heal.

Wednesday, April 27th - We head back to Everly's doctor for her 2 week checkup. All is good; she weighs 8 lbs. 7 oz., so we easily met our goal of birth weight by this date! She has her second newborn screening done; Dr. Svendsen checks her out and said all is good!

Thursday, April 28th - Everly is two weeks old! And, we think we are done with doctor visits for awhile! At this point, Everly is still being the ideal baby who falls asleep easily between feedings and up until Wednesday night, she has not had any periods of being mad and not going back to sleep easily. On Wednesday night, she was just mad and awake and only wanted to nurse, but was definitely not hungry. So, after GG held her lots and dealt with her cries, she wore her little self out and went to sleep. So, I am now trying to keep her up for a couple of hours in late afternoon so she is ready to sleep better by night time. We are also allowed to start going 4 hours between feedings and then start feeling her out to see how long she wants to sleep at night between feedings.

As far as my recovery, I am feeling great! I know my mid-section will be sore for awhile and I can't move too fast or get up off the ground or out of a chair too quickly, or I feel the tightness and a little pain. But, otherwise, although we are waiting for that little skin section to heal, I think this might be my best recovery yet. The swelling stopped a couple of days ago, and I'm getting some rest. As far as breastfeeding, I went from complete pain to finally, in the last couple of days, just having cringing pain when she latches and then no pain when she nurses the rest of the time. Today, I think the cringing pain when she latches has been less. So, hopefully, I am healing and my body is just getting used to her nursing without the tongue tie. Fingers crossed!

As far as Everly updates: she is just the cutest thing! I know we all think that about our babies and I've thought it about Atticus and Grace. But, this stage is just one of my favorites. I LOVE the snuggly baby part. She just curls up into a ball on my chest or snuggles deep in my arms and it is so wonderful. Her little soft skin is warm and I just love those baby snuggles! She is also starting to become more alert when she is awake. Her little eyes just open up and look around. She wants to sit up, but her little head just bobs back and forth and her little eyes go a little cross-eyed sometimes. But, she is getting better at those things every time she is in her alert mood. She poops almost every time we change her; she is very impatient for milk when she is hungry; she does not enjoy that paci yet; she has had her first sponge bath; her umbilical cords has fallen off; she is not into size 0-3 months yet and GG has just bought some newborn sized things for her to wear for the next couple of weeks until she fits those bigger clothes; she is still in newborn sized diapers; she has the tiniest little button nose; at this point, I can't decide who she looks like more - Atticus or Grace; her hair is really red on top and more strawberry blonde around. I hope it stays that way; it is the cutest!

I just hope I remember all of those little sweet features and grunts and snuggles and faces that she gives me at this age. The newborn stage goes so quickly and as much as I love the other stages too, I always miss this one when it is gone. I try to take lots of pictures but I feel like they never do the moment justice. So, I hope I always remember our little Everly's newborn weeks!

Those are my updates for 2 weeks! Although I still have lots of help from GG and of course Vic, I feel like we are starting to get back on track at our house. We still don't maintain much of a schedule and I have not been out of the house with the kids, since I can't drive until tomorrow. So, I know I have "mom of 3" things to figure out as we go, but I'm looking forward to it!

Birthdays for Vic and I

So, I want to remember our fun birthdays this year with a quick post! Vic turned the big 35 on February 5th and I turned 33 on February 28th. For Vic's, since he shares a birthday date with Katherine and she was turning 30, we joined some friends and family together and ate dinner at Chuy's and went to northgate for the night. Ana and Charley came into town and Katerina joined us. Then a bunch of Chris and Katherine's friends joined as well. The really funny part was that Ana and Charley bought "Over the Hill" decor and decorated the house with it for Vic! The pictures do it justice and it was so funny! Also, on his actual birthday, Friday, the kids and I took a picnic lunch and met him at Research Park to eat and walk and feed the ducks. And that evening, we took him to Grand Station Entertainment to do the arcades. Atticus constantly wanted to know what kind of birthday party we were having for Vic...you know he LOVES birthdays. So, we tried to plan a fun day for our little family to celebrate that would be enjoyed by Vic, but also by the kids.

For my birthday, it was on a Sunday and I got to enjoy the whole weekend with naps and relaxing. We ate delicious food and Vic and Grace even made me this amazing ice cream cake from the Pioneer Woman! They gave me a movie basket with coupons and snacks and then since my birthday always falls around Oscars time and Vic and I enjoy watching it, we had Oscars Bingo and Oscars ballots to fill out after the kids went to bed. It's just fun to celebrate with the kids too because they understand and LOVE birthdays so much!
