Memorial Day this year was great! I love, love, love a three day weekend at home with Vic. As a family, we did mostly kid things. I guess that is just what you do when you have three of them! We sat outside while the kids played with the neighbor kids and played in the backyard. Vic cooked some delicious dishes - layered cornbread salad, layered red, white and blue jello, flank steaks with roasted corn/tomato/avocado relish, and sweet tea chicken breasts. YUM! And, we got some great naps in and long sleep periods with Everly sleeping 6 and 7 hour nights. We got some one on one time with both Atticus and Grace. Grace went shopping with Vic to Lowe's where they bought a new grill. It was just a great weekend!
Then, today, among all of those fun things, Vic took the kids outside for the afternoon while I got some stuff done inside and Everly napped. He got out new water guns and those new water balloons that you fill up with a water hose and they drop off when full and are already tied with a rubber band. They are great! So, Vic, Atticus and Grace played with water balloons, built a sandcastle, and ate popsicles. And those two had so much fun. I am sure I do not say it enough, but Vic is the best husband and daddy to us! He is always fun and always thinks of new things to do and somehow never runs out of energy. I'm always so grateful to him for his selflessness. And I love him more than he will ever know.
Here are some pictures of today!

Everly at 6 1/2 weeks
Okay, so a quick update on Everly:
- She has passed that "brand new tiny newborn" stage and is growing!
- She is in size 0-3 clothes now and size 1 diapers
- She has now slept 4 six plus hour nights and two 7+ hour nights, but mostly has been going about 4 1/2 hours each night before getting hungry.
- She still likes being swaddled to sleep and is still in the bassinet in our bedroom.
- She takes about an hour to wake up from a deep sleep with grunting and stretching every few minutes.
- She is still a bobblehead but getting better at holding her head up; she is especially good at it when she is leaning against my shoulder or chest.
- She is finally starting to enjoy hanging out in a rocker or swing for a little bit before getting upset. She doesn't love being flat on her back to play and only likes tummy time a little bit.
- Once she is tired of the rocker or swing, which sometimes only lasts 10 minutes or so, she prefers to be held....all the time. She can go from screaming to being perfectly content the second you pick her up.
- She can really scream when she is mad and her entire body gets red and she just gets so mad! But, this is only when she is not being held. Otherwise, she is content and doesn't usually have any crying fits just to cry. So, that is good!
- She hasn't had any major tummy troubles, so we haven't had any more sleepless nights of her just being up because she doesn't feel good.
- She still hates the hiccups.
- She is not taking the paci well. I keep trying, but about 20% of the time, I can get her to take it. Otherwise, she is just mad about it. She has put her own thumb in her mouth a few times, so we will see if that sticks.
- She still does that thing where she will stop breathing or hold her breath for a few seconds while she nurses and then get mad before taking a breath again.
- She poops almost every time her diaper is changed and does not tolerate a dirty diaper for long.
- We think she has an umbilical hernia. Apparently, it's not a big deal so we will check at our 2 month appointment.
- She has given two big smiles to Atticus, but otherwise, we are still waiting on them....
- She does not love her carseat either; she much prefers to be held when we are out at the park.
- She really likes being in her Solly Baby Wrap and I like it too.
- So far, she really likes baths. The second I put her in the water, she becomes content.
- Her little skin is just soft and sweet and her little legs are just so cute! Also, her red hair is just the best!
- Atticus and Grace ask to hold Everly every day, even if for only a few minutes. Atticus loves to give her tons of kisses and tell her bye if he leaves or goodnight. He will comment on her cute little tongue or cute little hands or anything else. He just loves her. Grace will ask to play Patty Cake with her over and over and tell us she is "so adoh-able" or "so presh-dus" or "so cute". She also likes to cover us up while we are nursing with her pink blanket and calls her "my baby". Atticus calls her "our baby". They both will rock the rocker when she is crying and I cannot get to her right away. It's amazing how adaptable they have both been to having her. It has been no problem, as far as they are concerned, in having Everly in our lives!

Star Wars & Legos
At Christmas, Charley gave Atticus his first set of Legos. Since that day, Atticus has become obsessed with Legos. He has acquired many sets of City Legos, Star Wars Legos, Mixels, and Jurassic World Legos. That was his request for his birthday and the reason we had a Lego themed party.
He really does a great job putting them together and has recently started making his own creations instead of just following the instructions. He will build them and then play with them using his imagination and has lots of vehicles and buildings. His favorite part of the Legos are the mini figures, or as he will call them "mini-figs". These are the people of Legos. So, there are policeman, firefighters, regular people, construction workers, etc. Then, because of his new love of Star Wars, he has lots of Star Wars mini figures - Chewbacca, Han Solo, stormtroopers, R2D2, C3PO, etc. He absolutely loves those people.
I have a love/hate relationship with Legos. I love that he enjoys putting them together and really love when he uses his own imagination to create new things and spends lots of time doing this. I love that he is bonding with Charley even more over Legos. And by this, I mean, he tells us constantly "I can't wait to show this to Charley" or "Take a picture of this to send to Charley". He thinks Charley is the Lego master! And this is partly because not only did Charley also love Legos when he was little, but he also has a huge container of Legos at Grandma and Pop's house that Atticus got to play with recently and he thinks it is the greatest thing ever! I also love that sometimes he lets Grace play with them too. She doesn't build things, but I love that he will actually share them. Of course, sometimes Grace breaks them (when she intentionally throws them on the ground) or plays with his setups, but mostly they play nicely together with them. He also spends some time organizing them in these compartmental boxes Grandma gave him. So, sometimes, this gives him lots to do!
However, I sort of hate them sometimes as well. Legos are a mess. Atticus has them all over the house and is always mid-build with them. It's funny because he mostly knows which Legos go with which type of creation and somehow keeps up with them. But, I am constantly needing him to pick up his Legos or move them or finding tiny pieces on the ground. And when he builds so many things, he doesn't want to put them in the big green box we have for him to store his containers. Of course, I understand they will get broken, so we had to find a display area for him...and we didn't really have anyplace in the house for that. But, we've managed for now. I also sort of hate them when they fall apart or he needs help with them and I don't have that exact moment to help him. I usually have to look through the instruction book again to figure it out and he is so insistent and then gets mad and then we have behavior issues to deal with. So, I love them, but they are a little more high maintenance than dinosaurs or animals!
Anyways, so overall Legos are great. But, for Atticus, if you combine Legos with Star Wars, it's like his current dreams are coming true!
So, this obsession with Star Wars is very funny to me. It started right after Christmas as well when Charley and Ana gave him his first Star Wars Golden Book (episode 4) and a Star Wars sleeping bag and some star wars figures. He started to get into this theme, but until just a few weekends ago, he had never seen any of the movies. So, it has been so funny to watch him pick up hints of what the movies are about, but not really know. He was learning more about the characters by watching YouTube videos of kids opening Star Wars themed toys and Legos. And, he would ask Charley and Pop questions. But, that was the extent of it. So, when Charley came that weekend, he went into FULL ON Star Wars mode. He asked Charley a million questions, especially once Charley gave him two more Star Wars Golden Books. And he wanted to build all kinds of Legos. And, Charley brought the entire 6 episodes of movies. So, Saturday and Sunday, Atticus got to see Episode 4 & 5. And since then, we have watched episode 6 and 1. The best thing about these is that they are really safe. The two we have seen so far have not had any cussing except saying "hell" one time and not blood or gore or anything either. There is lots of shooting aircraft carriers and storm troopers, but what 5 year old little boy doesn't love weapons and bad guys vs. good guys at this point? So, there is lots of action and while Vic thought one of the movies had too much dialogue for Atticus, he surprisingly kept up with it. So, we are ok with Star Wars movies so far and I'm so glad because Atticus has been dying to see them! And, honestly, why can't movies be like that today? No blood, gore, language, sex, etc.....what a concept!
And finally, the funniest thing about Atticus's Star Wars obsession? It has rubbed off on Grace! She knows, for a 3 year old, just as much about the characters as Atticus. If you ask her, her favorite is Chewbacca or Princess Leia. She sometimes has the character toys in her dollhouse or in her setups with her ponies and Minnie Mouse and her princesses. She likes to talk to Atticus about Star Wars. It's hilarious! A couple of days ago, I even heard Atticus quizzing Grace about Star Wars characters and their weapons and ships and clothing. And she was answering him! Also, over that weekend, I bet she pointed to the characters in the book and on Atticus's birthday gift bag 30 times to ask who each one was or tell us who they were. And the one she asked the most was...Bobo Fett. This means nothing to anyone unless they know Star Wars, but pretty much if she asked, you didn't even have to look, you could just answer Bobo Fett. It was a new one that she didn't know before Charley and Ana came that weekend, so it was the newest for her to discuss. She also loves the movies and intently watches them. I am constantly questioning my parenting as I watch Grace enjoy Star Wars, but she loves it because Atticus does and I think it's ok. She's also so funny because she has different versions of their names such as "Obi Nobi" and "RD2" and "Wuke Kywakker" and "Dark Vader" and Atticus says "Storm Troopeters". Grace also loves BB8. And, if either of them see something Star Wars related, they are equally excited and Grace is so excited to show Atticus because she knows he loves them. Even playing outside today in the water, Vic said they were pretending to be Star Wars characters!
OH! One more quick thing: Atticus will talk about the Dark Side where Darth Vader belongs and must have just decided if the bad guys are on the Dark Side, then the good guys are on the Bright Side. So, it's funny to listen to him talk about Star Wars and incorporate the Bright Side in his stories.
So, it is all entertaining and this Star Wars & Legos hobby of Atticus's is a good one. So, thanks Charley!...at least most of them time

Pre-K Graduation
Atticus graduated from Pre-K at Sonshine School last week. At the end of the year, the whole school does a musical program and then the Pre-K class puts on caps and gowns and crosses the stage for their diploma. It was really cute and I didn't even cry! It is strange because sometimes I think about Atticus going to Kindergarten and I can just get so emotional. I think the thing that makes me most emotional is just dropping him off every day for the entire day with no transition starting August 22nd. I know all will be fine, but just leaving him in that big building makes me a little anxious. And, the thought that after this summer, I feel like I will start losing him. Right now, we are pretty much his entire world, but once Kindergarten starts, he will have so many experiences and moments that I won't be around for, and that makes me want to cry right this very second. I am so happy he will have those, but my goodness, can't I just setup an area in his Kindergarten classroom for me and Grace and Everly to go about our business but still get to experience everything he does? So, as excited as I am for him to start Kindergarten, because I know he will love it, I am still emotional sometimes! Here are some pictures from graduation! How grown up does he look?
I was trying to get a picture of just Grace but at that moment, she and Atticus has spotted one another and given each other high fives. All year long, they would always light up and be so happy to see one another at school and after school. So, this was really cute to see!

Atticus Turns 5 & A Lego Birthday Party
Well, our firstborn is finally 5 years old! He has talked about being 5 since the moment he turned 4. He likes being the oldest and knows he can go to Kindergarten (or Hindergarten as he says it) when he is 5. Some of his friends are 5 now and he can think of things that only 5 year olds can do. And, he loves birthdays and his is at the end of our February/March/April birthdays in our house, so he has to wait the longest. Well, he finally turned 5 this past Saturday. He has been talking about the kind of party he wants to have for awhile as well. We have done Cat in the Hat, Zoo Animals, Farm Animals, Dinosaurs and this year he has talked a lot about either a Star Wars or a Lego party. This year, with the unknown timing of when our baby would arrive, I decided against doing a kid party and we did a family party with a few extra adult friends instead. However, I have learned my lesson in talking up birthday parties too much...the day arrived and his behavior was kind of terrible. All he could think about and cared about were presents. It made me sad that he didn't really get into the cake and the decor as much as in the past. All he wanted was presents. So, it was a tough day. He, GG, Vic, and Grace did play a game of Star Wars Lego Bingo that afternoon, so that looked fun. But, finally, the evening came and Katie Verett and the Scarmardos came over. Grandma and GG were already in town. So, we ate chicken spaghetti, garlic bread and salad; we sang happy birthday and cut some cake and then he got to open presents. The theme of his gifts were rocks (actual cool rocks, rock books, and rock activities), dinosaurs (shirt, toys, and legos), and star wars/legos (lots of lego sets, star wars walkie talkies, The Lego Movie, and the Star Wars Lego Movie, and the Millenium Falcon toy). He got way too much. But, the big party is over and he hasn't started talking about his 6th birthday party yet. So, I'm sure that is coming! But, next year, I will be more prepared!
At 5 years old, here are a few quick facts before I post some birthday pictures:
At 5 years old, here are a few quick facts before I post some birthday pictures:
- He is in size 6 clothes and size 12 or 1 shoes
- He weighs 54 pounds and is 3 ft. 8 inches tall
- He really loves legos right now, but still loves animals and dinosaurs as well.
- He is a really good big brother to both Grace and Everly and despite normal sibling stuff with Grace, he is so helpful to her.
- He is still cautious about trying new things, but just recently, when with his friends, he is getting more comfortable. He is still a perfectionist in lots of ways too.
- He is still in a rough behavior stage as far as getting mad and impatient easily, talking back, and not always doing what we say until we have to get loud and angry with him (which is so frustrating that he doesn't take us seriously until that happens).
- However, he is still smart and helpful and so much fun to talk to when he has one-on-one attention or helping with a project or Everly. I love him very much, and just want him to grow up to be selfless, thoughtful, kind, and a good friend and sibling.
