Our new curtains!

This past weekend, my favorite aunt GG and my mom can into town to see the house. They loved it as we do! GG and I had already shopped and picked out fabric for the living room. Our living room is great, but it has these great big windows. We LOVE the windows, but for me, I not only needed some color in the room, but also want to be able to close curtains on them if I feel like it and not allow anyone to be able to see into our house anytime. We thought about blinds, but not only are those expensive, but sort of plain. So, we finally decided on fabric. And, it is beautiful! However, GG and I did not really think about how big those windows were! It required 12 yards of fabric just for the regular curtains. Then, for the valance, another 6! We took lots of pictures on GG's camera and I won't have them for a couple of weeks. But, we had fabric everywhere!

My original thought was "I will help GG and we'll both sew!". I mean, I was a 4-Her awhile back and I know how to use a sewing machine. But, fortunately GG just sewed it all. It took all weekend to do and while she was sewing, Vic and I were putting up the curtain rods. Normally, that would be an easy task. However, a) those windows are gigantic! They are actually 12 foot wide, and though Lowe's makes rods for 12 foot windows, it is very tough to put them up. Plus, not only did I want one rod, but 2, because of the way the curtains were made to be hung. Thankfully, Vic is a very patient man and never complains. Other guys might have had a few choice words for our brilliant window treatment plans, but not Vic! They turned out great! Too bad, the fabric covers up his hard work! You cannot even see the rods!

Oh and a funny note; between Vic and I we went to Lowe's 5 times that day! We just kept needing stuff!

It was a great weekend, though I promised GG and Mom I would not make them work so much the next time they come. Let's see if my promise holds out - they are just SO good and creative!
So, this is the finished product. Because of the light shining in, I wasn't able to get a picture of the entire window at that moment and I haven't tried taking a picture since. But, this is the woman of the year for sewing until she was exhausted! And, what is so funny is that you can really see how tall those windows are with GG standing next to them! She is a shorty, but not that short! I'll try to put better pictures another time!
