Dinosaurs

So, for today, Vic and Grace stayed home from church and Atticus and I attended Sunday School, Church, the Annual Meeting and then our LIFERs lunch with other families from our church. Because of such a long day and knowing Grace doesn't last that long, we decided she and Vic would take a father daughter at home day instead.

On the way to and from church, Atticus and I, per his request, talked about all extinct and endangered animals and then what our favorite dinosaurs were. Then, in opening worship before Sunday School, as everyone sang "The Battle of Jericho", Atticus made up his own song that went along the lines of "the big woolly mammoth killed the saber toothed tiger lalalalalal". Then, as our little toddler class walked around outside to find things that God made, Atticus was sure to share random thoughts about "endangered species" with the other teacher.

Once we got home, he immediately went to the playroom to start setting up his dinosaurs. We decided to let him skip his nap since he was playing so quietly. He did come ask me occasionally what dinosaur family a particular dinosaur belonged to because he said he was setting them up with their families. At one point, he comes through the kitchen with his airplane full of dinosaurs and they landed on a table in the living room. At that point he re-set them up in their families in that room. When he was done, he made both Vic and I close our eyes and he led us to the table and told us to open them so we could see his setup. He told us all the families. First, I should tell you that he really is learning the types of dinosaurs, but I mean really and truly - those are hard words to say and hard to remember unlike all of his "regli-ur" animals he knows so well. So, when we asked him which was which, he pointed out each family and these are the answers we got:

Stegosauruses
Tall-e-osauruses (the tall ones)
Humply-osauruses (the ones with humps such as the brontosauruses)
Horn-e-osaurusus (the ones with horns on their heads)
Triceratops
Ankylosauruses.
Flying Lizard Sauruses (the flying dinosaurs)
Tigerosaurus (a T-Rex that happened to be colored like a tiger)

And then he picked up the T-Rex to make it eat one of the dinosaurs and told me that dinosaur really liked to eat meat and blood. Nice.

He played with them awhile longer moving them around and lining them up and having them attach one another occasionally.

He loves animals. Regli-ur Ones. Endangered Ones. Uh-stinct ones. And now Dinosaurs. Oh and do you want to know why regli-ur animals are uh-stinct? It's because the Indians killed them all. And do you want to know why all of the dinosaurs are dead? It's because a big rock hit the earth and the earth changed. And do you want to know his favorite dinosaurs? Well, today it is the brachiosaurus, ankylosaurus, and the stegosaurus. And do you know why I know all of these answers? It is because Atticus told me. Smart little guy, huh?
