Little Moments: Atticus's Blessing for Grace

So, I'm going to cut into the "catch-up" blogs to tell you something cute the kids did tonight. At church during communion, since the kids do not take communion yet, the pastors give each a blessing when they come to the front. It happens every time and they are used to it, even though they probably are not always sure why things happen the way they do. But, on Christmas Eve, we were talking to a friend, Holli, who had taken our family picture, and noticing Atticus was wanting to dip his hand into the baptismal font, she tells him to do it and then make a cross on his forehead. So, between the two events, he has recently put them together and will randomly give us "blessings". It's happened maybe 3 or 4 times that he has told one of us "I am blessing you" or "I'm giving you a blessing.".

Tonight, we were doing the normal routine of "giving hugs and kisses" that Grace so excitedly does to everyone each night. Atticus wouldn't let her, and then screamed really loud so he got a quick talking to about why we don't scream bloody murder in the house for no reason at all. Then, Atticus headed his way with Vic and I followed Grace into her room. I don't know if he was trying to come back from his screaming actions with something kind, but he told me he needed to give Grace hugs and kisses.

He walks into her room and she is already in her rocking chair ready to read and he gives her a hug and a kiss and while we are watching closely to make sure he doesn't squeeze her too hard or pull her out of her chair (we've been there - it does happen), he proceeds to make a little cross on her forehead and says "I'm giving you a blessing, Gwace. God loves you. I pwomise."

And then he heads out of her room to go to his bed. Goodness. That little sweet, kind heart of his just shows up when you least expect it. I know he loves that little sister that he still calls "my baby" even though he doesn't always know how to show her quite yet. But, I don't know if there is a greater act of love than giving her a blessing and telling her God loves her.
