Our Christmas in Orange Grove

So, Christmas is over. And I don't want to drag out the Christmas posts any longer although I could talk about them over and over because I love this time of year. But, here is the first one with bullet points and a few pictures:

Christmas in Orange Grove:
  • Arrived Thursday afternoon, December 18th; Atticus got to go to the fire station with Vic and Grandpa before waking up in the middle of the night with a stomach bug.
  • Friday was a sick day for Atticus and the beginning of Grace's desire to not have anyone touch her or be near her unless it was me or Vic.
  • Vic and Grace picked up Geoff and Jill at the airport that afternoon and then later that night went to Mandee & Derek's to eat dinner and visit with them and the Klatt's.
  • While I hated for Atticus to be sick, it was a sweet night with just Atticus at the Seidel's home reading animal books that belonged to Vic when he was young and watching movies in between bouts of "sick poop" and throwing up.
  • I was also amazed at how easy Atticus was with a stomach bug. This is TMI, but he was so good at holding it in until he got to a toilet or telling me right away that he needed to go potty. And just like with Grace earlier in the week, he was snuggly and sweet too.
  • On Saturday, Atticus woke up unable to eat and was so sad that he eventually asked if he could go back to time out (he had been in there earlier when he couldn't behave nicely) and went back to his room, curled up in bed and slept for 2 1/2 hours. I went to check on him and he was slowly waking up. He walked into the living room of Steve, Janice, Jill, Geoff, Vic and Grace and said "Merry Chwimpus! I'm all better!"
  • We opened gifts around lunchtime. Atticus got an airplane from Granny Irene, some clothes from Janice & Steve, a toy computer from Jill & Geoff and a rat from Jill. He told Jill he wanted a rat when she asked him earlier that month what he wanted for Christmas. She put it on the ground and when he saw it, he was so confused and thought it was so gross but was so interested in it! Also, Steve & Janice got Atticus some lawn toys - chainsaw, mower, weed eater and blower but they didn't make it quite in time and were shipped to College Station instead.
  • Grace got a fisher price puppy train from Jill & Geoff, clothes from Janice & Steve and a wooden cookie baking set from Granny Irene. and, Steve & Janice also gave Grace her first pair of tennis shoes - they are really cute and light up when she walks. She will sometimes see them in her closet and bring to me to put on her to walk around the house. I think she loves the light up feature. Also, the two of them together got a car track that stands 3 feet tall and has roads that swirl down to the ground. Though not it's official name, Atticus called it the Super Track and that is now it's name.
  • I got lots of Stella & Dot jewelry and Vic got a toaster and a knife sharpener. Also, the Seidel's always give us lottery tickets to scratch....I won $100 on mine!
  • Dinner with all of the family (grandparents, cousins, aunts) that Steve and Janice usually have on that night we are there was canceled since Atticus was sick. We ate a delicious pasta shrimp dish and let the kids watch movies (Paw Patrol and Frozen were the hits this year), play on the iPhones and play on the Super Track the rest of the night.
  • Our plan for Sunday morning was to go to church, eat lunch and leave. But, Atticus woke up and threw up again. We thought he was over it, and I wonder if it was partly because he had only eaten a few Cheetos and a couple bites of sandwich the day before. Otherwise, while he would drink water, he was not interested in eating. So, we packed up and left around 10:30.
  • Overall, I was sad that it was such a chaotic Christmas for the Seidels and the kids. Things like this just happen but when the kids are sick or getting over being sick, sometimes they just cling to us and are not themselves. Such is life.
  • The most hilarious part came after we got home. We were still dealing with Grace getting very unhappy when she was not having her way and Atticus having "sick poop." At one point, he ran to the potty and while sitting there, of course his little bottom was hurting and he was talking away and then said..."Maybe I have a cactus thorn in my bottom?" Poor baby! I'm sure that is what it felt like to him....but what a description!
Grace was adorably dressed, but just needed to do things her own way on her own time with her own people. So, she was happiest when she was playing with this basketball outside, running around in the boat, or pushing the buttons on the big gun safe.
 Present time!!
Steve, Vance, Mary, Vic & Janice having a little visit on Saturday night.
Christmas dinner. I think Grace was crying here because I'd left her side.
Geoff & Jill are having a baby! Jill is about 14 weeks along here. Baby is due on Jill's Birthday - June 25th!
 Ah. Finally peace and quiet.
So, Vic's cousins brought over more gifts on Sunday morning. Grace got a ride and scoot pink tractor and Atticus got a farm setup with animals and a tractor!
Finally...right before everyone was headed to church and we were headed out of town, the kids perked up and let their family members hold them.
Next year there will be 3 grandkids in this picture!! (and maybe even me! #alwaysbehindthecamera)
We didn't want to spread our germs to everyone so this was the only time I saw Granny Irene. She looks put together as always!
