Christmas Break: Kindergarten Party, Letters to Santa & Neighborhood Fun

When we got back from Sanger Sunday night, Atticus still had school on Monday and part of Tuesday. The Kindergarten party was held in the cafeteria, so the girls and I headed up to participate. It was really fun. The kids made crafts, ate snacks, ice skated (on paper plates on the slick floor) and even had a snowball fight (with stuffed socks). On that day, they had early release at 12:45 so we took Atticus home early after the party to start our official first Christmas Break with a kid in school! During the week, these are the things we did. First, on the Friday before, he took his teacher's present to her. But, on Monday, he really wanted to make her another card, so this is what he wrote her and drew her.
We also wrote our letters to Santa. Atticus insisted on us all using his 100 gel pens to write the letters. I thought they were so fun! They asked for some random things, but it was fun to do! And Grace dictated hers and they both dictated one for Everly.

I love watching him use "finger spaces" for his letter. See that little finger?

The Results:

"Dear Sants, I have been trying to be good and this Christmas I hope Rudolph makes it to our home. I want a toy boat, toy plane, ATA walker, stuffed animal bat, sticky notes. Love, Atticus and Grace and Everly Love Santa."

They put them in the mailbox for the North Pole!
And do you know what came back to them the very next day? Well, mail makes it back and forth to the North Pole fast because they got a letter back from Santa! It told them to be good and leave some snacks on Christmas Eve!
Also, on our Christmas Break, there was LOTS of playing outside with neighborhood friends. It's funny because Grace is one of the very few girls that plays outside a lot and she always plays with the boys. Sometimes, she will stick close to me and sometimes she participates with Atticus talking all girl talk but still playing with the boys. Well, Atticus is very good to include her but sometimes he gets distracted playing and forgets about keeping her included. And sometimes, she gets her feelings hurt. On this particular day, she was sad she was being left out so she just took a break and laid down on the sidewalk to be sad. But, it wasn't long and Atticus came and got her and they went down to play. One of the high school boys started playing football with all the kids and let Grace be the one to carry the ball and took good care of her. It was so sweet and she loved it! Although there are lots of teachable moments when your kids are playing with other kids on the block, I like that they have friends so close by.
