Atticus: Easter Egg Hunting Rounds 1 & 2
This year, Atticus was old enough to hunt in the Easter Egg Hunt on Palm Sunday at church. However, he didn't know how to hunt or what an Easter Egg was, so we decided to do a practice run this past Saturday. Vic had bought Atticus a Mickey Mouse bucket at HEB to put his eggs in. And, I hid some eggs with some goldfish and crackers and fruit snacks in them. I had thought that if I put treats in just 5 or 6 eggs, it would show Atticus why he wants to find eggs. Well, he picked up on that goal pretty quick. First, I hid about 15 eggs in the yard and Vic and I helped Atticus find the eggs. At one point, about halfway through, Atticus shook an egg and it made noise. So, we showed him what was inside and of course, he immediately wants to eat it. We were so proud! However, after that, Atticus wanted to open every egg we found and immediately eat whatever was in it. So, the Easter Egg Hunt ended up taking a very loooong time. Once it was over, Atticus still wanted eggs with treats. But, at least he was trained and ready to go for Palm Sunday.
Since Grace was less than two weeks old, she and GG and I stayed home, while Vic and Atticus headed to church. Typically, during the Sunday School hour, the Easter festivities include snacks, singing, and then the egg hunt. Vic said Atticus was more than overwhelmed by all of the kids and the singing and just clung to him in fear. Plus, there is an Easter Bunny at our church that wears an old costume (that has seen better days), and frankly, I think is kind of scary. There is also a picture taking station for the kids and the bunny, but Vic said they bypassed that as soon as they saw it, knowing it would scare Atticus. Then, right before the little kids started hunting eggs, the bunny appeared again and Vic said Atticus just froze. He did not cry, but did not know what to do with that giant 6 foot tall bunny. So, the Easter Egg Hunting was not super successful. All of the kids were instructed to help the younger ones fill their Easter baskets though, so Atticus got lots of help. Vic said it was really fun!
